Pharmacology

Etomidate is a derivate of imidazol, related to drugs used as antifungal agents. It was introduced into clinical anaesthesia in 1972 by Doenicke [1]. The drug has a very high therapeutic index of 26 (the relation between lethal dosage in 50% and therapeutic dosage in experimental animals not ventilated or otherwise cared for), six times as much as thiopental [6].
