Other Side-Effects

Considered in this section are delayed venous reactions, myocloni and post-operative nausea and vomiting (PONV). The extreme hyperosmolality of some galenic preparations and thereby their impact upon these side effects on haemolysis is considered elsewhere.

Radtke et al. [284] defined a new concept of emergence delirium and found this in a quality-control analysis of 1,868 patients, among other factors, related to premedication with benzodiazepines and induction of anesthesia with etomidate. In an adjoining editorial, however, Hove and Steinmetz [275], using the articles figures, that the majority of patients had only minor disturbances with only 0,4% (7 patients) classified major problems. The study marks the intentions to improve anaesthesia beyond mere safety which must be approved.
